Government insists on merging aviation agencies

Lagos - Despite the disquiet that followed the proposal to merge the aviation agencies, there are indications that the federal government has concluded plans to implement the policy by the end of August.

To show its commitment to the merger of the agencies, the federal government through the  Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF)  has written the agencies mandating them to send a progress report on the proposed merger to it,
The letter, which was signed by the Permanent Secretary, Mohammed Abubakar for the SGF, said the submission of the report was necessary so as to pave the way for the government to eventually go ahead with the planned merger of the agencies.

The government had in May issued a notice that it would merge the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) and Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET) to become the Federal Civil Aviation Authority (FCAA), so as to reduce the high cost of managing the agencies.
